.....I have felt. As if needle on the signal to noise ratio meter points now towards noise than to signal often more than not.

Why must threads of nonsense so many times be posted? Not even funny they are. Must I to WUS banish the Dark Side?

I'm glad that you have outed this - it's really been bothering me too. I'm no Saint, I've posted my fair share of nonsense, but it's getting harder to sift through all of the things that just leave me ::confused2::

    Let us write a story...

I know a guy called Ulack and he has a built in BS-detector. When too many BS threads arise within a certain period his alarm goes off. Things are then going to happen fast. And that is a good thing.

Can't you and the other mods get together and do something about it? I'm all for encouraging new members, and sometimes I'm quite put off by some member's responses to a newbies first post .
I'm also put off by the bullshit some members keep on posting, even after they have been told numerous times to cut the crap.
Unfortunately I think the forum is becoming a victim of it's own success.

Not just pointless threads, but pointless posts to interesting threads.

Frequently I log in nowadays and get alerts saying 'new replies to threads'. Ooh great, new pics? Nugget of info? New insight? No, just someone post farming or adding a completely worthless reply that adds nothing.

Kind of like this one actually.

The mods have the ability to lock or delete threads. If low post, new users are becoming bothersome you can post a mod message on the thread and close it. Once the forum gets a reputation for being strict and unfriendly, people won't come back and it can get back to "serious" topics like light sabers and rodents.

Every board with volume goes down this path. Your choices are:
Do nothing hoping it's a phase
    Delete
    Merge threads
Create a "dumping ground" board or for those with greater tact than I "odds and ends"

I especially like the light sabre bit in the background. Did you make that yourself, Padawan?

Reading this thread has made me realized that I should be more serious. I have also realized that it's seems to be getting harder to get interesting information or even answers to questions. Maybe it will do the same for others. Glad to know I'm not the only one.

Levity is welcome, and thread drift is part of ΩF's charm. I don't see that as the main problem; I see issues when creativity gets to be a competition where multiple absurd threads are posted in an attempt to top a comedic thread like the funny and off-the-wall cheese thread. Another recent problem is incomplete / inaccurate / inane information being given...... but that's a different subject and (hopefully) the offender(s) have been taken to task often enough to obliterate that rash. Sorting out the sound advice from the rubbish is something we didn't often have to do even 2 years ago. Nearly all the replies were solid information...... unless some silly squirrel commented on a 1930's or 1940's JLC dial when he should have shut up because he knows little of pre-1950 watches. ::facepalm2::

Too many Jar Jar's, not enough Yoda's!

Totally agree, there are plenty of other forums to talk crap on, I come here to learn from like minded enthusiasts.
