    I agree taxes are ridiculous, but that fare is not too bad
    My wife and I traveled to Madrid a few years ago and our round trip fare was close to $1000 each
    Cheaper now because fuel prices are down, I guess

    It depends on which airline you fly with, the ones that unhedged their oil purchase at higher levels are a few American airlines, British Airways and Lufthansa. Those guys can afford to lower fuel surcharge, too bad SQ didn't..... Also the arab airlines will always be competitive regardless of where the fuel price is coz it seems their fuel cost have been subsidized....
