A Few Watch-Related Books

I was going through my little library of books and came across these gems. A Man & His Watch does a fantastic job of capturing why and how some of us involved in this hobby began this lifelong pursuit. I can trace my watch interest origins to my father's Rolex DateJust and the stories in the book often have that theme. R is for Rolex was a gift for my son and I have just as much fun reading it to him. And Vintage Watch is a magazine I picked up from a Japanese bookstore in the Japantown neighborhood in San Francisco. I literally want to learn Japanese so that I can read this magazine. The watch selection showcased is an all-star lineup of vintage tool watches.

A Man and His Watch 👎
For the general public a nice introduction to wrist watches, but this book has a lot of mistakes, for example:
Page 82: Edmund Hillary wore a Rolex on the top of Everest.
In fact, since 1933 Rolex sponsored the Himalayan expeditions and they used the right words, Rolex worn TO the top of Mt Everest.
New Zealander Edmund Hillary carried a 33mm SMITHS wrist watch ON top of Everest. This British-made SMITHS can be seen in the British Science museum in London.
Page 103: Omega Alaska Project Speedmaster was never used in space
In fact, in 1977 the Omega Alaska II Project Speedmaster was worn during Russian Soyuz 25 & Soyuz 26 missions to Salyut-6 space station. It was even used during a spacewalk in July 1978 !
Page 104: Schirra's Speedmaster was the first watch in space (1962)
In fact, in April 1961 Yuri Gagarin wore the first watch in space, a Russian-made 17 jewels Shturmanskie.
Walter Schirra was the second astronaut to wear a watch in space, the first Omega SPeedmaster in space...

Fair points, and I also noticed the inaccurate description of Schirra's Speedmaster as the "first watch in space" rather than the First Omega In Space! What I enjoyed about the book, however, was that each "story" reads like a personal narrative on a particular watch and the watch owner's story of ownership regardless of anecdotal information surrounding a particular reference. It's an easy-reading, coffee-table book with beautiful watches, big pictures, and personal stories that I can relate to about the watch collecting hobby.

I received a Man and His Watch and enjoy it. I just don’t understand how they were content with just one watch?

Yea I received it as a gift from a friend and enjoyed it too, at some point I'll add a review of it to this section:

The 2025 Wristwatch Annual arrived today, I must say it's more interesting to look through than I expected. First time buying the publication.
