Went in the hunt locally to see what might be lurking around. Found a few Omegas (posted in the Vintage forum) and these two watches. A 1940s (so he says) Vulcain 14k white gold watch with box and papers and a Hamilton. 1100.00 for the Vulcain and 550.00 for the Hamilton. Pics below. The Vulcan is a sharp watch but is overpriced from what I can quickly research. No idea on the Hamilton. The best part of the day was getting out and on the hunt. Enjoyed that…

Well, ok, then.

I’d double make sure you’re dealing with White Gold.

and if it really is WG, think really hard again, at $1100USD for this watch. Pretty pedestrian in my eyes. I do not see a 1940’s vibe at all. Date watches came to be in the 1950’s, this looks 1970’s to me.

but, you do you.

Your reply is appreciated. As I stated in the original post, I believed it to be overpriced. I’m not interested in purchasing the watch…just posted it here as a result of my scrounging around. And, if in the off-chance that I was entirely wrong about it being over priced, someone with your level of time and knowledge base would steer me in the right direction. That’s what this place is for, right? Cheers, brother.

If the Vulcain is truly 14k, as opposed to gold-filled/plated, gold is high right now, so any gold watch is worth a fair amount in scrap value, even 14k. Box and papers are fun to have, but only if the watch itself is worth having. Many of these less desirable watches are worth scrap value + $50. The watch could be from the 50s, but I doubt it's from the 40s. Those hands are from the 60s or 70s, however, and the crown also looks like a replacement.

Those Hamiltons can be fun to collect, but they just don't sell for prices like that. I'm assuming it's gold-plated/filled. The dial has hand-drag and the lugs look really wonky and bent.

Right, I won’t make that mistake again.
