A cool late 1930's Longines US Naval academy dialled Weems with the unusual thumb lock.... These dials were actually produced in Switzerland by Longines and the watches would have been made available for purchase or supplied at the Naval Academy where Weems taught. The USNA dial version is also displayed in small form in his Weems Navigation books...this quite possibly was never sold or the owner possibly skipped a few classes......a couple of dial and weems variants were made with this USNA dial..
the condition of the dial is just incredible. I wonder when Longines decided that it would just not be economical to produce different versions/designs of the same calibre for different markets. Today, the watch market is pretty global - you largely get the same pieces at any store worldwide. I think it is fascinating to think about different countries having the same calibre with a different and unique design.
