A bit of love for Geneve

Hello Guys. I've been lurking on here for a few years and thought I might as well actually join up.

It was probably pre covid I first browsed threads on here but bought my first (and only) Omega in 2021 on impulse because I saw a watch on ebay that spoke to me in terms of style and because I liked the dial 馃榿 I like vintage watches, mainly with unfussy faces. The only watch I do have with "clutter" on the face is a Citizen Eco Drive which my wife bought me. lol.

Others in my collection are a Technos Goldshield which is a similar style to this Omega dial wise but I think that is probably a franken anyway. A Seiko 7S26 from about 2004 which still works nicely although of course its not as accurate daily as the Omega being within 30 secs per day. A fake Rolex I bought on a whim and put and replaced the China clone ETA with a genuine ETA 2824-2 and a selection of other vintage (franken or not) watches that all work at the time of writing this 馃榿

I already know from my browsing it isn't really a much loved model which is a shame because in my eyes its a beauty of a watch and keeps time about +7 secs per day. I have never had it serviced and have no idea if it has ever been serviced but at the end of the day I paid 拢200 for it so I will think about servicing or not if it ever stops 馃榾 4 years in so far and 7 seconds says to me all is good. I know it is probably worth a bit more like 拢300-拢350 at current prices but I didn;t buy it for an investment anyway.

Anyways the watch is a 1973 166.0163 Geneve with the much maligned 1012 movement in it. Only fault is hacking doesn't work which is not really a problem for me. A light champagne? sunburst dial, almost mint bar a small discolouration in between 1 and 2 indices. No lume behind the indices however no discolouration to suggest there was lume there and the lumed ends of the hands have no lume, again no sign on the back there ever was lume. Maybe a previous owner had this tidied up?

So there it is. I think its a beautiful watch. The simple dial and realative thin case means it wears a lot bigger than its actual size. It keeps better time than a new Seiko. You can tell I've work it quite a lot from the strap which I put on back in '21. Just to trigger you all...........the crystal is original but the little Omega symbol annoyed me when it shadows on the dial in daylight............so I polished it out....eek. Its my watch and yes I understand that would be a no no for you all. It is my favourite watch even if it wasn't an Omega. Some pics:

I should add that I'm not a fan of gold cases or gold on the dial or hands either so it is probably another reason this watch appealed to me. I like silver rather than gold or bronze and definitely not rose gold so that rules out a large number of vintage watches up for sale because gold seems to be now and through time more popular.

Welcome!
That's a nice Gen猫ve.
Maybe treat yourself to some Polywatch and polish out those micro-scratches from the crystal. That'll give it even more wow-factor.

Here's a Geneve I restored for a friend (only Polywatch on the external parts!):
