·Hi OF
A piece on offer with a New Zealand connection... Michael Hill's pièce de résistance - the tourbillon...
(Sir) Michael Hill - now 83 - is probably NZ's best know entrepreneur (relentless TV self-promotion advertising in the '80s and '90's at least partially to thank for that...), opening his first jewellery store in 1979 and expanding internationally with now over 300 stores in Australia, United States, Canada and New Zealand. The tourbillon was designed to stand apart from the rest of their watch range.
His 2010 autobiography is titled "Think Bigger: How to raise your expectations and achieve everything". And that could equally apply to his tourbillon which was conceived and sold between 2005 and the mid-2010's - retailing around USD3,500. No 'think bigger' about the asking price - now a lowball USD 975 and I'll contribute 50% of Fedex or DHL courier to your door.
This is an obviously 'for fun not the safe' piece. Its oblong stainless steel case measures 44mm in height, 40mm across (excl. crown) and 15mm at its deepest point... Silver dial, sapphire crystal and signed black leather strap with deployment clasp.
Comes in its original presentation box (which is modest I know...)
There were 3 dial configurations that I know of - this is definitely the most attractive with silver Roman numeral numbers and intersecting circles encasing the exposed tourbillon movement. Blued dauphine hands. The curved caseback allows you another peep into the movement...
Had my fun with it over the Southern Hemisphere summer - now looking to this and a couple of other sales to offset a recent purchase... Have references as seller and buyer in the Seller Review forum; some links below.
