91’ Moon Question.

Sorry I don’t know the exact age Vintage starts at. But I have a 91’ Speedy Moonwatch that I had a crystal question. What I was wondering was if it doesn’t have a logo on the crystal does that mean it was replaced? I have had a few Speedies from this time frame and some had it some didn’t. Now the thing that got me thinking was this one is in great shape like 95% and is a full set with no signs that I can tell of any parts being replaced besides the crystal. Any help is always appreciated. Beings I believe in trying to keep all my pieces that is until something nicer comes along I’m sure this one will be with me for quite sometime. Thanks for all the help.

The crystal could also have been polished down enough that it either reached or obscured the logo. There's definitely a chance that the crystal may have been replaced with an aftermarket part too, in all that time.

I know there're 4 different Omega logos used over the years... aren't these etched from the inside to allow polishing the outside ?

You do know the the logo is on in inside, if you polish the logo away, you are polishing the dial. 😉

A missing logo on a 1980s (and maybe early 90s) Omega is not a red flag for replacement. There have been times when plain crystals have been fitted, though of course it may have been swapped for a non OEM replacement.

I have a 1991 Speedmaster Professional which I have had since new, and the Omega logo on the underside of the crystal you refer to, is not there on mine, either. I also have a Speedmaster reduced which does have the logo. However, it was serviced by Omega about 10 years ago, and the crystal may have been replaced.

Lol yeah I do buy and sell pieces I have a small second hand site. I mainly provide pieces for 3 local shops. But first and foremost I’m a collector which makes my small business hard at times.

Yeah, but it's not just on the very surface of the underside of the crystal - you can polish down to where it's not easy to see. Without macro photos I couldn't say, but I've had old Speedmasters that required magnification to see the logo because of crystal wear and polish.
