'77 GMT question

I'm not sure if this is inappropriate for the forum, but i was hoping to get some feedback on the valuation of my '77 GMT Master, ref. 1675 (serial 515****). I've owned this watch for a very long time, but am thinking of trying to sell/trade it for a Speedmaster with a 321 movement.

the problem is that at some point, before my ownership, the original Mk4/5 dial was swapped out for a Mk2 dial. The Mk2 is beautiful, but not correct for the serial number. What do you experts think that does to the value of the watch?

if this isn't appropriate to this forum, please ignore or delete. Thanks. Gary

There are better Rolex guys here than myself, but that dial looks quite odd to me. Why is the printing so blurry? Also, is this not an MK2 dial? It looks it to me.

For reference, compare the crispness of the text on this dial:

I'm far from qualified enough to say why this may be, or give a value. But someone here surely will.

Thanks. The printing is blurry because I took the pictures with my phone. It is a Mk2 dial, which is the issue. I ought to be a Mk 4 or 5 dial, given the serial number.

Oh gotcha. I misread that backwards. The hands look sharp in the photo, so it seemed to reason that the dial should be in focus as well.

It looks like a pretty nice example, even with the wrong dial. Seeing pics of the lugs and case bevels is important.

You should be able to trade or sell and fund a 321 Speedy pretty easily. You have an imperfect 1675 and it equates to an imperfect 321 in the $8-10k range.

Just my 2 cents...it is a nice looking GMT.

Want to sell the bracelet?

Very nice looking watch, it is indeed an MK2 which is not period correct for your watch. I'd agree w @watchknut on his pricing assessment. Also, looks like it has a folded link bracelet which could be a plus for the right buyer.

I don’t think this one can reach 10k with the wrong dial and on that reference. 7-9 imo. Bracelet is a plus, but the guy that really appreciated the bracelet is exactly the guy that won’t appreciate the dial...

Also, is that the original bezel? It may have been updated when the dial was switched.

Yes. I think that the bezel was updated, as well.
I appreciate the feedback. I'm not exactly sure which direction I'm going to go on this.
The bracelet is a C&I rivet, so that was most likely added at a later date, too.

Yes you have a later blue-back bezel insert which will devalue the watch a bit as well. Case looks quite nice and I would expect you could trade or sell this quite easily for a later 321 Speedy.

This is an odd watch for sure, BUT, to the right buyer it might be gold. We all know that MK2's are more desirable and command a premium over most dial's (with the exception of MK3's.) If a person has a correct serial case with a bad dial, this watch could just be the answer. I have seen it happen way too often, so don't sell this watch short!
