Yeah you’re probably right... I think I am getting a bit impatient for a nice speedy in my budget to show up.

But don’t let that stop you from posting pics😀

Lets put it this way : If you spend 3.2k on that watch now, and day in day out you look at the dirty lume, chipped paint on the hands and scratched-off 't-swiss-t' (and especially if you carry on looking at Speedies and see the really beautiful ones), how might you feel in 6 months?

b) 'i wish i had my $3.2k back, because look at this sweeeeeeeeeet beauty that only costs $800 more than I spent'?

Happy hunting.

The problem with that one is the lume. It is just not an attractive dial to me. On the speedmasters there are only certain items I would NOT budge on. I can look past a bezel with a few dings and nicks, ghosting, and even the cratering. On the hands I can tolerate a few chips on the paint and even rehabbed hands. But it all has to match.

I am all about enabling here at OF, but I draw the line at green moss lume and over polished cases.

That paint loss at the bottom of the dial will not show in the case, so I don't think that should be part of your decision. The patina on the markers is not perfect, but this is a solid example at a fair price. If it were 3k, that would be nice, but if you like the look of this one and want a vintage Speedmaster that is reasonably priced, I think it would be a good choice. It is mostly about how you like the watch, not what people here think. If the color of the lum is ok with you, that's what matters. The watch will never be worth less than you pay for it and could be worth 1k more a year from now. I'd recommend one like this all day over a LE or other modern Speedmaster. I wouldn't hesitate to pay 3k for it and put it away. The bezel is correct and in great shape and has original hands.

So while the bezel on this one is not nearly as nice, I think it may be a better value. The hands and dial are more attractive, there is less polish on the case, and the teardrop chrono, while not correct, is worth quite a bit more than the correct hand, and should be able to easily be traded.

*edit* since the other one includes the bracelet, that might be better overall. But the dial and hands are so dingy...

FYI that was most likely produced in 77.

Thanks for the heads up, but something about this one isn’t getting me excited. Maybe it’s the bezel, I can’t really say for sure. I think I am just going to continue waiting for my perfect speedy to come around. Hopefully it’ll be sooner rather than later.
