I was surprised by the result.

It's an ok example for me. Good for a daily wearer but unserviced and with that dial it should be around £3450.

Around £500 above market imo.

It seems like at least 3 people felt otherwise...
All the stars aligned for the seller on this one. Good for them.
We see stuff like this all the time at auctions where average watches sell for WTF prices. Happens all the time (and on much bigger scales...)

The reason why this particular watch sold for less is that the listing had no description whatsoever.
Meaning, in case there is something wrong with the item, the buyer cannot claim "Not as described" since nothing was described...
It's whatever you see in the pictures. If you have a keen eye to assess the watch and take the risk with pretty much 0 safety net. Good for you. If not, move along.
So yeah, bottom line, a riskier deal = much lower price.
(I personally love eBay sales like this by the way...😉)
..plus that sale was only for US and Canada buyers.

I think in the end one watch does not negate a general trend, but I'm happy someone found a watch they value!

That's always great, to find something that you find interesting or valuable and then make it yours.

I think it was a one off, but generally I think 70s and 80s Speedies are going to continue increasing in price.
I guess it’s some combination of the “Birth Year” watch thing, somewhere alternative to “invest”, the perceived value of vintage watches, and earlier examples being out of reach now for many.

Unattractive dial (to my eye) perhaps price a wee bit higher than expected. Close enough in range....if buyer follows through haha
