Hello Everyone,

I am looking at buying a 6b, and I know many were recased out of the Duralumin cases, but one that I am looking at is apparently "rare" and is a steel case model. Were any issued in Stainless Steel cases?

Thanks!

Yes. Some of the first 6B/159s in 1942-3 had all steel cases. You need to check it closely though as it might have been recased later. Can you post any pics?

See here for info on something similar:

I’d that a steel one? The mid case looks a lot like the Dural version.

Thats what I am being told, is there a way to tell the difference? Perhaps markings inside? Is it odd that there is not a crows foot on the back?

No. AM is just fine, that’s Air Ministry. The back for both versions says Fond Acier Inox as its stainless steel on both inc the Dural version. Do a search on 6B/159 and you'll find plenty of info. The watch you show looks nice, I'm just not sure its steel.

6Bs like yours were alloy midcase. They often hard hard lives and the long lugs got broken or fractured where the fixed bars are, some I've seen have the lugs ground down and holes drilled for springboard.

Your's (the one you posted about) looks like a nice example.

(Except for the bracelet 🥴)

Here's my CK2292 with steel case. One of the favourites in my collection. They're very nice if you like a smaller watch 😀
