6217-8001 dial source

I just picked up a work in progress 1967 Seiko 6217-8001.

I'm in need of a decent shape dial for it. I know that's a long shit, but figured I would post here and see if anyone happens to have one or two hidden in a parts drawer or something.

Or if anyone has any leads or can direct me to a source even.

Thanks much!

If you have a dial already but it’s in rough shape, I’d consider sending it to horoluma in Germany. If your dial is beyond repair I’d suggest searching the Japanese auctions on websites like fromjapan.co.jp

Warning though, once you go down the rabbit hole of vintage watches in Japan, you’ll find yourself lighter in the pocket and awash in new watches. 😀

It's actually not a terrible shape dial, but I have no clue what it's out of. It is not the original. It literally just has the raised Seiko logo at the top, and Automatic at the bottom. Correct lume plot shapes, but that's it on the dial. Definitely an odd one.

hope you’re able to find one. Seems like a good opportunity to share a pic of my small crown 6217-8000

Movement torn down, inspected, cleaned and oiled.
Hands and dial cleaned, but didn't do anything other than remove the loose stuff. Crystal sanded and polished with polywatch.

And all put back together!

I'll decide if I want to pursue a new insert or to polish it later. But for now, I couldn't be happier!

This was my first complete movement teardown and service. Pretty stoked on that!

That looks great! Well done. How on earth did you manage to find a dial so quickly?

I actually had to buy a lot with the dial, movement, hands and movement ring. Gave 1000.00 for it, but figured the movement was worth at least half of that, so didn't feel terrible with it. I've got right at 2000.00 in the finished watch and extra set of hands and extra movement.

That seems like a smart deal. The extra hands will be worth something as well. Or just keep the lot in case you ever need parts for repair. Either way you ended up with a great looking watch for a very reasonable sum.
