60's Seamaster losing 60s-70s/day

Hi all,

My early 1960's Seamaster has been losing around 60s to 70s per day lately and I was wondering if anyone thinks it's just a service issue- I just had it serviced just under 2 years ago. I know that it's a vintage watch but I somehow feel that 2 years or less between services is a little too frequent...

As an FYI cal is 552 and I had the rotor replaced during my last service as it was damaged (according to the servicer). I wear the watch every day.

Any ideas/help solving the problem would be appreciated- I don't want to go in for another service so soon just to have it not fix the issue...

When did it start losing so much time? Recently? Did it keep better time for a while after the last service?

Chances are it may need to be serviced again in order to correct the issue(s). A new problem may have developed, or it is possible the last person who did the service may not have done a thorough enough job (maybe they left a part that had a bit of ear, but they did not think it warranted replacement at the time).

Was there a warranty on the service 2 years ago? Did the accuracy drop while it was still under that warranty?

Time loss has been gradual over the last 6 months- possibly over the entire period since serviced but nothing noticable to me until 6 months ago when I started losing 20s-30s per day I think. I didn't really recognize a problem until a few weeks ago when I looked at the time and it was noticeably behind.

No warranty (or none that lasted this long- I think it was like a month warranty). The watch was non-functioning when I brought it in so I was just happy to get it running at all at the time of original service.

I suspect you may need to find a watchmaker who is better with vintage Omegas.

Yes will do. I used STAR watch repair in Manhattan based off some info on NYC repairs on this site- I will look around for someone more specialized...

552 is a nice movement, mine is averaging -4 sec per day. Let the forum know if you need recommendations for a watchmaker near you. Good luck with it!
