I have recently purchase this off Ebay. When i chance upon this list, It was ending in 2 minutes and I couldn't search for more information or really study the pictures. I made the classic impulse purchase and manage to get it. Is this a legit buy? Appreciate all inputs.
Looks legit. 14393 calendar. The watch looks ‘prepped for sale’, so has seen some fairly heavy polishing. Also, by the verdigree on the movt and degradation around the indices, there been moisture intrusion at some point. Any pic of the inside caseback? Some possible rotor rub there too. I’d recommend a service to at least clean the movt.
Hi @Peemacgee , great to hear from you again. Your inputs on the pie pan dial thread was very helpful Great advice, I will get the watch serviced and checked by watchmaker once I have received it. Just really glad to know from you that the watch looks legit from your eye test.
Every single one of these I have seen with this type of marker (whether Seamaster or Constellation) has some sign of degrading around the markers. I suspect these late 50’s/early 60’s models contained radium as opposed to tritium which causes the burn damage.
Whats going on with the different metal colours - really visable on photos 2 and 3 On my screen it looks like white gold capped on stainless steel, but never heard of that combination before !! Is this yellow gold caped, or what?
I believe it is (yellow) gold cap on steel - which means that someone has to alter the colour balance on the pictures to find out how it actually looks. The photos above are rubbish. FWIW, the watch looks authentic (bar the crown), but heavily worn.
Talk about not seeing the wood for the trees - I was so busy looking at the details I didn’t look at the colour. I hope @kusjoe78 realised it was a gold capped watch and BOR
Yes it is a 14k Gold Cap...I know that the picture in the ebay listing enhanced (too much) but it was stated in the description as 14k Gold Filled
A Little Update....Just received the watch. In real, the color looks better...closer to 14k gold filled case.
