Hi everyone, I tried yesterday a 5513 from 1978 (Rolex Authorized dealer). It has a spider dial, what is your opinion, can this further crack ? Does the spider dial adds value to the watch ? Do you think this is a good deal overall ? Seller wants 9700 EUR (serviced by Rolex 6 months ago) ? Comes with a warranty card. Bezel has been changed recently. Thanks !

I personally would stay away from spider dials. I don’t find them attractive and think they actually decrease the value of the watch instead of increase.
I’m sure others might feel differently though.

Edit: I didn’t realize your actually has a service dial too, since they didn’t start the white gold indices until about 1984. So this would be a very hard pass for me.

Yeah, a service “spider” dial adds absolutely no value, IMO, and should make it cheaper. An original dial in perfect condition should still be most valuable, IMO, but with Rolex fanatics and their fascination with “factory imperfections” an original “spider” dial would probably be a slight bump in price.

As mentioned, the spider dial appeals to a very small set of collectors and being that it's a replacement dial diminishes the value exponentially. I would stay away unless the seller is willing to drop the ask by considerable amount.

Some people like these damaged dials, but overall it doesn't really add value because many people avoid them. In this case, the service dial and insert greatly diminish the value of what would otherwise have been a Maxi dial 5513.

This is an example of a good moment to change a damaged dial for another original dial in better condition.
