For sale is a mid 50's Eterna-Matic with a very nice high glossy black dial.

Gold capped case which measures a tad under 35mm excluding the crown, takes 18mm straps.
The gold layer on these old gold capped cases is actually very thick (you can actually see the layer form the side) and not to be mixed up with cheaper gold plated cases.

Dial is fantastic but not perfect, when I studied it close up there is some light circular markings around the centrum which is almost only visible with a loupe or macro lens. Otherwise its very glossy black with gold indices and hands, consistent yellow-ish lumeplots. Notice that the date wheel is black and with gold numbers to match the dial, which is a very nice touch.

Case is well preserved without bigger dents but of course have wear an light scratches, crystal is a newer not Eterna signed. Crown has lost some of its gold layer and no Eterna signing is visible, not sure it this is the original crown or not.

Cal 1422 (think?), is running strong and keeping accurate time as well as changing the date at 12. But no known service history.

Also willing to sell a matching period correct 16mm Eterna gold buckle if interesting (see pictures), want an additional 50EUR for it.

Price: 350EUR net to me by paypal or bankwire, additional 50EUR for the Eterna buckle, I’m located in Sweden.

Really nice piece! If I hadn't just picked up a Kontiki 20, I'd be all over this. GLWS.

Very nice package and priced to sell. Question is it an optical illusion on the case on the crown side I see no spring bar holes drill thru and on the opposite side they are? Is this the norm for this reference?

That was quite common back then, for the function you just need drilled lug holes on one side in order to detach a strap 😀

Same for Rolex/Tudor Oysters in the 50’s 👍

Was this done at the factory or a independent watchmaker? Thanks

Congrats to the buyer - this is a lovely piece. I was sorely tempted to add this as a companion to my SS Eterna-matic from @LesXL - but I don’t really wear the gold-capped black dialled watch I have already bought from @hejsam enough as it is…

I feel the same that I rarely wear the gold capped watches and therefore tend to sell them, but they are hard to resist because they are so pretty to look at. Especially the black dialed ones with gold print and furniture, the black goes so well with the gold case! 😀

Couldn’t agree more:
