·I’m putting my Eterna up for sale as I just don’t wear it enough, and I really need funds for repairs on watches that are more likely to get worn. I can’t say a whole lot about it so I tried to cover everything with a decent number of photos.
The case is 35mm with a lug width of 18mm. Crown is original. There is a slight crack in the side of the crystal between the ten minute and thirteen minute markers, which I have tried to show in one of the photographs. The caseback has been skimmed down slightly at some point, I imagine to try and remove an engraving which is still lightly visible (Dr. B. Rochus ?). The serial number of the case is still legible (4439351).
The dial and hands have only a small volume of luminous material but give of a strong Geiger reading that indicates the presence of radium. To put that into context the reading is about 50% stronger than on my military WWW Eterna that has a radium dial with much greater volume of luminous material. So the mixture used here must have quite a high radium content. That would explain the radium burn on the dial, both around the small markers and in general from the hands. I’d also recommend replacing the crystal due to the crack and the radium content.
The movement serial number 4492441 places it to 1960, and the movement seems to run well and the rotor is free to auto wind. Having said that, I don’t know the service history of this watch and have never serviced it might self. It would therefore be a good idea for the new owner to have it serviced, especially if it’s going to be a daily wearer. I am not sure of the caliber as it’s written right under the balance and is completely obscured.
Cost:
325 euros
Shipping:
Shipping will be added at cost price, which of course depends on destination country.
Shipping Country:
The watch will ship out of Germany
Payment:
Bank transfer or Paypal. I am going to be strict that Paypal payments should be friends and family as otherwise fraudulent reversals are too easy, and also Paypal will only be available to long standing members with positive trading history. Very "safe" buyers may also choose to use standard Paypal if they wish, but the fees haven't been factored into the price so for standard payments 4% must be added to the total.
Returns:
Returns will only be accepted if the watch has been significantly misrepresented in this listing.
