Best $5 you have ever spent. Get it serviced and wear in good health. A truely awesome find.
Yeah, I'm actually pretty shocked that it's authentic.

Actually, you might be right as the case profile on most of the solid gold gold cases is slightly different.
There should be a stamp between the lugs to confirm and it’s a great score regardless.
Thinking of having case removed to find out S/N. Would this also tell me if solid 14k gold or gold filled?

No, the case will be marked. You don't need to open it. Just remove the strap and look carefully for a small engraving.

Every now an then someone finds something good.

Keeps the rest of us looking for the next one.

... and there will always be a next one.
My belief is strong in "the next one"!!

Absolutely, cheery on top is that’s it’s a solid gold model. If you’re able to get the strap off (only try it if you’re confident of not scratching it) it will likely say 14k between the lugs.

Ridiculously good score.
I'll see what I can do, show updated photos of strap removed.

I am not a believer 😀. I do not belive that you bought this watch for 5 USD. Nobody sell an Omega for this amount even in worst possible condition. From your pictures it's possible the watch to be solid gold so one more reason do not belive that story.. Enjoy your watch 😀
That's the thing, I certainly bought it from a yard sale for $5 USD, it was in a basket with some other watches, I passed it by at first and went back before I paid for the other few items I was buying. I personally believe it was set out by mistake.

Look closely, with a magnifier or loupe if possible. The engravings can be quite small.

Yes on that JLC I found I was surprised how small the writing was full disclosure that one was 10kt gold filled but if gartacopa hadn’t given me an idea where to look I never would have found it

i bought a 14k YG version at a pawn shop here for $60. It was in a plastic baggie, the sales lady informed me it needed a new battery. I just chuckled as I wound it. They hadn’t taken off the band to see the 14k mark at lugs.

Once upon a time pawn brokers were to smart too let things like that slip by, I was so impressed by the knowledge of veterans in that industry and so unimpressed by the chains involved now that can’t seem to understand anything other than power tools

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!

Why can't I ever find these barn gems? OMG.

You have to do the miles to get the smiles…still plenty of vintage shops in the middle of nowhere where you can pick a gem up.
Old overcrowded antique stores are the honey pot for me…some of the best finds are with a “anything out the back” leads to a pristine watch or two with a crown missing or some minor flaw like a broken bracelet or one side of the strap missing.
