·Hi all,
Having only gotten into the hobby a few years back, I never got around to having the guts to work on my Vintage Omega I picked up some months back on ebay. Now that I have about a dozen or more vintage movements brought back from the dead, I've worked up the courage to tackle the Omega movement.
Its a 351 bumper and as I tore it down found more dirt, grime and dried grease inside than probably all other movements I;ve worked on before. Anyway, when I got to the cannon pinion I had an usually difficult time getting it off and it required more force than I normally need. When I got it out and the center wheel fell away, I inspected both parts under magnification. The cannon pinion looked fine so I dropped that in the parts tray. However when I took a look at center wheel the tip seemed to be broken off and there was a lot of play between the center wheel hole and the seconds pinion.
I promptly tracked down another replacement that came with a cannon pinion. However when I received the part(s) the cannon pinion was on the center wheel shaft, it didn't spin and there was no play up or down along the axis of the parts. Its almost like it was one solid part. I certainly can't get it thru the main plate pieced together. It was NOS still wrapped in its package too.
After double checking my parts list for the 351 on "oldswisswatch" to assure I had the right part, I did (330-1224), I noticed that there was another separate cannon pinion (330-1218). Does anyone out there know what parts I actually need? Is the center wheel/cannon pinion combo supposed be like that and I just have the wrong parts or do I need to take them apart?
Thanks in advance.
