34x 35x automatic without rotor - use as manual wind?

I have had a few 34x 35x movements. I have noticed hearing the rotor scrape the case back on some fo them.

I still have two of these. I don't usually purchase watches without second indication but I liked the one pictured.

I expect that it will be difficult to restore the automatic piece of the movement. I believe that the ball bearings were rubies.

I like the 34x/35x watches but I have a concern about maintenance.

If something were to happen to the rotor, would it be possible to remove the auto winder mechanism and use the watch as a manual wind movement?

Any thoughts appreciated.
