I've been an observer of watches since the 80's, too, and there has always been forces pushing certain models or brands for commercial purposes. Patek Philippe and Rolex have been masters at this, creating shortages, then buying back examples at auction at very high prices, it sets the market values. The Nautilus was a dud design for decades until the market discovered it....with Patek Philippe's help, of course. Omega, and Swatch brands in general, haven't been able to capitalize on this mania for whatever reasons. Omega seems to be catching on to how these games are played with the Speedmaster line, I'd look for more of these examples in the future. Rest assured , this kind of activity does not happen on its own....it's coordinated in some fashion.

It does include free overnight shipping that takes a little bit of the sting off

$33,550 is just the negotiating starting point. Just took a quick look at Chrono24, maybe $33,550 is a good price for those that covet that little white dog with the big nose. Seems like just a couple years ago these were about $20K.

Seems reasonable, compared to investing in stocks...

True story (warning, non-Omega content!): In the late nineties, I was looking at the IWC Portugieser chrono, but I didn't like the harsh feel of the chrono pushers (it used a 7750 back then). Also, kind of a soup can. So I put the money into biotech stocks instead. All went swimmingly, I enjoyed picking up a free hotel copy of the Wall Street Journal and seeing my stocks double in value, until one day Clinton and Blair got together and made a statement about the dangers of biotech, or something like that. Next thing you know, my stocks are back where I bought them, and then went further down from there. Twenty years later, the money is long gone, but I could have bought that 3714 or maybe even 3712 rattrapante, and enjoyed it for the last twenty years!

So, if you think you'd enjoy a watch with Snoopy on both the front and the back, and you have the money, why not?

i wonder how many pieces will actually be sold at this new price point on chrono24. seriously who would buy - omega, its museum (a supposedly old trick of rolex and patek) or buying through its proxies to push up it prices - yes but who else. I think It will be a loonnnggggg time for any piece to be sold if at all; it will be like watching paint dry.

It's not only the Silver Snoopy that's been on a steep price trajectory but it's probably getting the most exposure of the LEs at the moment. You could pick up a full-set Japan Racing for <USD4k about 4 years ago. Now they go for around 3-4x that price I'd say. Alaska Project was hot for a while. Holy Grail prices jumped a lot some time back and got a lot of attention but seem to have gone quiet again. There's a number of others that have climbed strongly: golds & white golds, Mitsukoshi, Albino, Speedymoon. Even originally unloved LEs like the Tintin and Moon-to-Mars have been lifted by the tide.

I do like Snoopy but the asking/selling prices on this model is just ridiculous. It's priced higher than a steel Daytona and AP Royal Oak chronograph.

I love the Snoopy and remember thinking when it came out, 'hey in a little time if work goes well there'll be a few bargains to be had in pre-owned, I'm sure!'

to quote a different cartoon character; "Whatta' maroon!" 😡

Honest to god truth, I just discovered the 45th Anniversary Silver Snoopy Speedmaster about 2 months ago. I was doing some Pandemic spring cleaning and came across a magazine that I had never bothered to read. Magazine was dated from 2017 and titled, Speedy Tuesday... so I read from cover to cover. Pages 32, 33, and 46 to 49 introduced me to Snoopy. Well, as a huge Peanuts fan and Speedmaster fan I was wowed. Then I looked up how much selling for.... are you guys f$&?ing nuts? Hell, I think I can buy an original Charles Schulz drawing for that kind of money.

Supply and demand is a bad mother, with only 1970 made...
Of course the author wrote,”The new white dial is brilliant and all the writings and images on the dial do not distract. Would I buy as my only Speedmaster watch? Probably not, as I feel you need to go proper Moonwatch. “

Then again...

It always seemed goofy to me. Never had even a momentary flash of lust for it.

Schulz sketches at least used to be great values on the auction market; I've not been much into art recently as unlike watches, I run out of space for them faster - but I did have a couple of black and white original sketches years ago I ended up selling. I'll have to see if I can find photos of them. IIRC they were both 700 USD or less when I got them.

First, it's not Goofy, it's Snoopy. Second...It's C-19 lockdown, AND it's Snoopy!! What more draw do you need?? (read previous sentence with 'joking' font)

That said, I chose this for the uplifting grin it induces....plus, it's not the price of a low mileage 2 year old E class Mercedes!

P.S. Thanks to those on OF that alerted me to this release!

I remember asking a well known grey if they would accept £10k for a watch listed at £11k some time ago. They said no. I thought they were unreasonable and gave up.

I guess they were right. I’ve never been that lucky
