Sorry - I'm taking the risk here of elevating a post buried elsewhere to thread status. I've tried my own researches, and read @Franco's superb essay, but currently too out-of-the-money to invest in @Mac-omega's tour de force volume. Apologies if it's already been dealt with on here somewhere. 😟
"Hey, what's the problem?"
I've looked at a lot of dials fronting RG movements, but I still can't crack the code. Most say "CHRONOMÈTRE", then "OMEGA". Some though say "OMEGA" then "CHRONOMÈTRE", which really doesn't sound right. And sometimes you don't get the grave accent on the first "E" - which, unhelpfully, is more usual practice for capital letters in French nowadays. Now, I'm seeing an English-style (USA?) "OMEGA CHRONOMETER" turning up. In fact, I'm seeing some of this stuff now when I close my eyes...
Are today's re-diallers just bad at languages? Or just plain sloppy? Or what's going on here?
Please help save my family's Christmas from their daddy's expensive misjudgements! I'm grateful for help, thanks...

Erich’s book is worth it if you are in the market for even just one nice example.

I think Erich's book should be bought before buying the actual Watch. It's really of a great help and has so many details that would be forgotten otherwise.👍

In your own words: Most say "CHRONOMÈTRE", then "OMEGA". Some though say "OMEGA" then "CHRONOMÈTRE"
It all depends on the model (reference) - there are execeptions for late models where the order is inverse and sometimes even the addition "officially certified" can be found.
It always should read Chronometre and not Chronometer
For most models an accent is compulsary but there are exceptions to the rule and for special references...

I don´t know if this solves your problems - it must be decided case by case if its an uncommon reference.
I admit its complex and you need a bit of experience

Thanks for these wise words. I've started saving for the book! And specialist libraries should start sending their orders in now...
