Sure the reason is that it is close to the crown tube, as this is the weakest point for water intrusion. Its expect on such a watch also traces of oxidation on the base plate of the movement under the dial and crown stem areas.
Following discussion is irrelevant, as all depends on what life the watch lived in last 60years, including usage, climate, service periods...
While I agree that the theory of moisture intrusion at the crown may explain the #3 discoloration, it's interesting that it would cause discoloration of just that one particular plot.
