2998s in the Netherlands Antilles

I read with some interest the description of this 2998-1 which just sold at the Phillips Geneva auction for CHF 119,700 (see first photo below). The write-up included this nugget:
"Adding even more excitement to this piece is that the Omega archives reveal that the present watch was part of a batch delivered to “Netherlands Antilles”. Actually, two other examples of this batch with very close movement numbers have appeared on the market in recent years."
The reason this caught my eye is that my own 2998-2 (bottom photo) was also delivered to the Netherlands Antilles. My watch also has a brown tropical dial -- possibly a perk shared among these watches from spending time in the Caribbean sun and humidity. Who knows. (It also has a much more banged-up base 1000 bezel.)
As it was delivered in December 1960 vs. January 1960 for the Phillips piece, my watch would not qualify for one of the batch "with very close movement numbers" referred to by Phillips. (My piece is a 17,76X,XXX serial number vs. 17,30X,XXX for the Phillips watch.) Which suggests that 2998s were being shipped to the Netherlands Antilles beyond the narrow window around the time when the Phillips piece arrived.
So I am wondering: does anyone else here have 2998s delivered to the Netherlands Antilles? And does anyone know why these watches ended up there?

Maybe because of employees of Shell? Or the Dutch marine corps?

Why would delivery to Dutch Antilles be special so to speak? I see a Rolex being advertised on Tropical as "From Kuala Lumpur" as part of its draw... for both is this just marketers looking for something to say to differentiate the piece from the rest, or is there something to delivery location that I am missing? I assume it is just marketers being marketers and looking for any POD they can find but please educate me if I am missing something.

Very nice watch @stonestone and interesting post overall. I would say your hypothesis of the climate being involved is probably spot on. May also have something to do with the specific black they used during that small batch/run.

@140dave i also had similar questions once. The only conclusion I came to is you would only care of the original destination for the watch if you had history there yourself. For example I’d love to buy a watch that originally was sent for or sold in Greece. That or you just like knowing the provenance behind a watch you purchase

Something along either of these lines might explain it. No idea what the Dutch military deployment to the Antilles back then was like, of course.

Just to be clear, I'm not claiming these watches are special or better than other great 2998s of a similar vintage and condition. But it does strike me that the odds are somewhat stacked against a number of 2998s which have survived and come to market in recent years being delivered during a narrow time frame to this one rather remote location in the Carribean, all purely due to chance. I'm just interested in why this place might have been something of a Speedmaster magnet back in 1960.

Thanks, @TheGreekPhysique. Whatever the reason I'm thankful for the results.

Indeed, Netherlands Antilles have been in the Top 10 Offshore Tax Havens in the Caribbean
