On leather strap. Note: This watch has three issues that are reflected in the price: The dial has a scratch The alpha hands are aged service hands The movement number is usually seen in an earlier 2998 Provenance: Bought by me from a retired watch maker in UK in early 2014. Serviced by Swisstec on invoice T37858 in 2015. Kept in temperature and humidity controlled environment since. Condition: Case is in good condition showing some signs of use. Fully serviced, the case was cleaned and very lightly polished, no metal removed. Pushers were replaced, and service alpha hands fitted after a vintage style relume. The ding on the lug is highlighted by lighting. DO90 Bezel is slightly faded but in good condition. Dial has a scratch on the lower sub dial. The dial body colour is very attractive. Apart from the scratch - which is much worse on photos, this dial is superb. A full track, lovely colour and good original lume. Movement was serviced by Swiss Tec (STS) and is in good condition, and correct. The serial is a little low for what I have observed for a -62. This discrepancy is again reflected in the price. I have asked Omega to confirm it but they said they cannot confirm any 2998’s. After discussions with the watchmaker who sold it to me, he told me that the case back was swapped when he serviced it – because “back then we didn't care”) Here is the movement. Note original crown. As we can see it is in very good condition. The screw heads are undamaged, showing only slight signs of turning. Column wheel complete and correct. Here is the case back, and the original dust cover. In summary this is a watch I have agonized how to dispose of. It is a rare watch, but with problems. I believe the seller was careless at best with his representation, but I was hoping to gain access to the heap of parts, bezels and dials that he said he had - which in the end he did not. When it came the watch had the wrong hands, but otherwise appears good. The movement number is so close to the other 2998's I missed it when I bought it. (Impatience, naivety, excitement, incompetence, hope of more rarities.) I could have placed this on Ebay without the in depth analysis I have presented here. But I do not think that is correct behavior. I think this watch is great value and will give a lot of pleasure to someone who buys it with eyes open and with no surprises later. I have told you everything. So now - do you buy this, knowing everything, or go to Ebay and buy a watch with unknown history with hidden issues and undisclosed work, for more money? The last two confirmed trades of 2998-62's were $23,000 and more. SALES TERMS I only sell to refocus my collection. I am not motivated by profit and so I have no reason to embellish or over describe. I have been on ebay since 2002 with 100% feedback. I have bought and sold a few watches on www.OmegaForums.net and you can find my feedback by searching my username. I am the author of www.Speedmaster101.com and so you can understand protecting my reputation is first. Price includes insured delivery in the USA, and will include delivery elsewhere unless you have some expensive needs. Returns are welcome if you don’t cost me anything to get it back to me and the watch is in the same condition as it arrived with you. I am a private collector who rarely sells. When I do, most of the time my watches sell very quickly, and to the first person that PM’s me with the words, “I will buy this watch now at your price”. In the past several people have been upset because although they are the first to reply, they ask if I can do a better price – meanwhile someone has agreed my price. I am not in the slightest bit offended by offers, but remember that they will only make sense if the watch remains unsold after a few days. Delivery can usually be facilitated almost anywhere Payment Payment by Bank Transfer is preferred for these larger amounts, I propose we both exchange ID copies and speak by phone to feel comfortable. Face to face is always welcome.
