Does the back on this watch look like it has been re-engraved to you as it does to me?

I've never seen one that was so bold. Most of the time the logo is faint from wear. Appears to have been buffed then done by a laser. The lines should be cut fine. Sure has that laser etched look to it.

Yes I agree. Look at the small centers of the bridle circles compared to mine which is typical.

Judging by the wear on the crown and the rest of the case, perhaps the back was worn smooth and this was a misguided attempt to make the watch more attractive. 🙁

After reading about molested and re-lumed watches, frankens and fakes, in this forum, what has happened to this spectacular and highly desirable Omega Speedmaster 2998 is not surprising, at all.

Probably 9 out 10 watches found on the Bay have undergone some form of surgery. What used to be a healthy play-ground, it is now a mine-field. Always, look and try to acquire a factory-original piece, even though its price may be a little over the top. It is worth, in the long run and we can sleep in peace.

Upon discovery a watch is not authentic or factory-original, forget about it, so that those unscrupulous elements will be out of business.

A shrewd and unscrupulous element, trying to deceive those unsuspecting potential buyers. How many of us can really detect the watch has been laser-treated?

That being the reason, the price expectation is above the norm. The buyer has to reimburse the laser treatment cost and like what you said, it is no cheap.
