Dial and hands are really nice. The case is a little scary though - can't imagine it seals well.

No wonder it is relisted. If there is no shill bidding, it would be interested to see the ending price.

This 2998-1 sold for $10k - bezel while beat up is original. The rest of the watch looks nice especially the dial.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Omega-Speedmaster-2998-1-/221254608004?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item3383cd6484Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

I may be showing my bias here but I would rather have a nice 2998-1 or -2 than a YG grand luxe connie in YG. If it was in PG it would be a toss up but if they were both near mint, I would still go with the speedmaster.

Hi Mike, which one has lolly pop hand? Is it 2915 or 2998 ? which version?
The more I research about the speedmaster, the more I appreciate it.

Most common in 2998-2 but can also be seen in -1 and -3. AFAIK not seen in 2915.

Is the bezel correct? It doesn't match the one on the other 2998 linked above.

Look at the case pitting... I believe that is the same as sheer time had it

-2 was a transition from the base1000 bezel to the non-base1000 bezel so presumably the later examples did not have the base 1000 bezel. The one I linked to was a -1 which should come with the base1000 bezel.

And the -2 is a sheartime watch.

Hi Mike - I've only found Rolexes on Sheartime. I thought they were exclusively Rolex, but do they sell premoons as well?

Looks like the dial is from a later reference.

So this watch has a bezel and dial incorrect for the 2998-2 reference and has a case in bad condition too!

Wow. I'd say this is in really rough shape. Let's see if it is reflected in the price!!

Of all the factors, I'd say the case issue is probably the most serious. The bezel possibly is a match, because this is a -2 and as you pointed out the -2 watch was transitional for bezels.
