From what I can see, the vast majority of 2777’s around seems to be the Fat arrow version. I was wondering, is the earlier Thin arrow so much more valuable because of pure rareness, or is it a more appealing watch? The dial seems a bit different, and in fact more pleasing to the eye from the pics I’ve seen. Curious to know your thoughts about these nice pieces, as I think they are very charmy and underrated.
I kinda like them Left Two: 2777-1 RAF 1953 Thin Arrow Center: 2777-2 1955 Railmaster Right: 2777-1 RAF 1953 Fat Arrow
The MOD printing on the FA dial is a little less refined and not as attractive, for me, but the TA is roughly twice the price. Fantastic group shot Gemini, thanks.
Yes that's an enviable grouping Gemini! The Thin Arrow's are effectively those that escaped so much more scarce. The layout of the dial is great on them and they typically have much more patina. I recently got my first Fat Arrow and the original owner.. or a latter.. tried to obscure it's military heritage by removing the arrow all together, which is fairly common.
Reference 2777-2 (Railmaster or Sterile Dial) contained a caliber 283 movement with a swan neck regulator. This type of 283 movement was never seen before, or since, the 2777-2.
