Hello all,

I am in the market for 2561.80.00 I note that some boxes are grey whereas, other boxes are red... Does anyone know why some came with grey boxes and some came with red boxes?

I know the box isn't the main thing as you can't wear the box but I'm trying to sourseba full set for my son.

Cheers folks

Many times dealers simply put watches into whatever was on hand. IIRC watches are not shipped to dealers in "the" box.

It's true that dealers weren't all that fussy but the box itself evolved over time. The main box Omega used in the late 80s and early 90s was grey with a red top plain beige card. Then around 1996 the Red box set was introduced, first with a patterned beige card. Both these boxes are prone to nasty deterioration and basically turn to dust, the red one in particular. A nicer, slightly bigger, better lasting red box was introduced around 2002, that one came in with the thick instruction book and the multiple red cards more like we see today replacing the paper booklets seen earlier. As a general rule, expect a tritium dial model to have the grey box, and and SL dial to have one or other of the red boxes. The change in lume and box won't match exactly though so don't use that as a hard and fast rule.

It's not a hard rule but as you said a good way to know if the watch match the box and card. Specially when they blur the number on the case.

The second one can't be anything but tritium. With the shape of the 3, sometimes, it's better judge than the number itself.
