2531.80 with an 1109 movement

Okay my 2531 with the original 1109 movement dtops once every 2 weeks, basically it will be several hours off. Yes I know the automatic winder in it has issues hence why they moved away from them. But I like the fact that its the original movement to the model. Yes I know its not as good, but I am strange.

Is there anything anyone has ever found beyond manually winding it daily or does it need a service. It is about 15 seconds a slow, but that does not bother me. Would a service maybe help it?

Best thing to do is take it to a watchmaker and have them service it. They will clean and lubricate it, then regulate it to have it running to specs again.

This is definitely a situation where it sounds like you need a service. Service would be a tear down and clean, but this could be 20+ years without a service (unless you know better about the history), so a visit to a watchmaker is way past due.

Yeah it may need a service, but from what I read the 1109 movement is a cause of this. The automatic works were not great. It seems fine if I just wind it every day, and that's what I have read.

Just did not know if anyone had an extra insights.

I've serviced a lot of these and if done properly, the automatic winding will work just fine. It's basically an ETA 2892A2, which is a very reliable movement. Of course nothing lasts forever so it will need service every once in a while, just like any other watch does.

Is this one of the three liner autos? Cool.

The 1109 was chronometer rated like the 1120. AFAIK the 3 liners used the 1108 and were not certified hence the missing text. They are not common.

Thank you, I couldn't remember which number was the three liner automatic, but I knew there weren't very many.

Or maybe it was a non rated 1109 in the 3 liner, I’ll take a look, I’m not sure but the chrono rated version was much more common.

Yes it does.

So, there were some really early 2531s that were automatic but didn't have the CHRONOMETER text. That's all we're chattering about, I misremembered which movement was in those.

I have posted pics before but the watch is below. It's an eBay purchase that got kicked out of the authenticator for being the wrong movement. But the authenticator did not look deep enough to see it was the 1109 movement and that's what came with the early ones. I am actually very happy it's an early one just because.
