·Bought this beauty a few months ago. NOS from 2001, was told that the previous owner just kept it in a safe. Came with stickers intact, box and papers. Not as popular as the 2254 but to me this one is more fun; I prefer the steel bezel and oh my that dial...
I got it in my hands a few weeks ago and left it running until the power reserve run out to check it as well as the timekeeping. Power reserve run at just over 50 hours and timekeeping at +1 sec/day (more accurate than my 3861). When setting the time the crown felt quite stiff, possibly due to the watch not having been used for over 20 years. Having read many horror stories about coagulated lubrication and disintegratred rubber seals and just to be safe, I sent it for service to Simon Freese. To my surprise, Simon called to say that he couldn't possibly improve it by servicing and it would be unfair to just undertake a service and charge me when it's not required. He said that the movement is in perfect condition and the lubrication is intact! Timekeeping is well within spec. The seals seemed in very good order and the watch passed a pressure test at 30bar. What I never expected was to hear that the lubrication hasn't solidified and it's still as it should be. But hey, first time for everything.
I was finally reunited with it for good on Friday. The only thing I noticed was that the crown felt substantially more loose (when setting time) from when I first got it, possibly because the watchmaker gave it multiple turns to test the operation and ended up loosening it a bit?
Not a fan of the chunky stock bracelet with the links that protrude from the lugs and increase the effective lug to lug. I had an aftermarket metal mesh which I think suits it perfectly as well as a Hirsch Osiris blue strap; ordered a nato too for swimming/diving. Anyway, bad quality photo time!
Cloud and rain here with no sight of even a slither of sun but somehow that lume didn't get the memo!
