So I am about to buy my first Omega. I live in Denmark, so I don’t have the the biggest local market, but I found 2 interesting watches.

The first is from a local seller, a 2254, with box and papers from 2007. Last service 2020. It has been used daily, but never been polished.

the price is~3200€

The 2231 is from Chrono24. From 2003 full omega overhaul in 2022. And with with micro adjust clasp mod. The shape looks okay in the pictures.

https://chrono24.app/omega/seamaster--id28252131.htm?checkoutId=7385418?SETLANG=da_DK&SETCURR=DKK
The price is 3000€ plus shipping

so the question is, which one should I get? If they was the same price I would buy the titanium. And I will probably need to buy a micro adjust clasp for the 2254 anyway.

What would you Guys go for?

Thanks for your time..

I like the classic Omega looks of the 2254 with the black bezel, but also the cool-factor of titanium. I think this is all just down to which you like the look of more.

Maybe my info is out of date, but I thought Omega did issue a physical 2-year warranty card after an official service. The listing for the titanium one claims that they don’t but that there’s an email they can provide-? Maybe that’s accurate, but if not, that would put me right off that watch.

My A11 3861 and my brother' AT recently both got a full service covered under warranty which had a physical 2-year warranty card included.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding what the guy is saying in his chrono24 ad, but if he’s claiming Omega didn’t issue a warranty card after that recent service… when it sounds like they do that (and that’s my recollection too)… that just seems fishy to me.

I would go for a 2254. It is an absolutely classic Omega look and has some level of continued popularity that doesn't seem to extend to all references.

Thanks for your insight.

To be clear: I'm not suggesting there's anything wrong with the watch itself. It looks authentic and clean (to my eyes). I don't know if there are fakes of this model that are actually produced in titanium, so if it weren't real, you'd know the second you picked it up, I'd have to think. And it probably was serviced as the seller claims. But when it comes to buying preowned luxury watches on the internet, I'm out of there the second there's even the smallest question-mark; the risks are too numerous, and these are mass-produced mid-level-luxury watches that are easy to find with a little patience, so there's no reason to compromise. Just me personally: I'd rule out that listing. Others may think I'm being neurotic. Maybe I'm also subliminally weighing the fact that it's a modified watch (even if the mod is just a clasp-change): it's a comfort-oriented mod, but it also means the seller isn't totally committed to maintaining originality. It sounds like you're good with that change (and might even apply it to any other watch you'd buy), but when I factor that in with the inaccuracy re: service cards... nah.

2254. I'm wearing mine now, and purchased it new from a local AD in 2008. A classic.

I thought I remember some time ago people lamenting that only a piece of paper regarding the post-service warranty was being included lately. That may have been a temporary thing, I've no idea.

Tough choice, I suppose, but I'd get the 2254.50. Local, a classic. Save the titanium for a chronograph SMP.

I would go for the 2254. One of the most comfortable watches I own. Definitely a classic.

Another vote for the 2254. I have been wanting one for years, and I just purchased one earlier today. I can't wait for it.

Hard choice! I like the heft of my SS 2254.50, but sometimes the lightness of a Titanium watch would be nice. Even though I like the shine and colour of SS better, the greyish matte titanium makes it look tooltastic! I really like the big font on both watches, it makes the bezel look slimmeri. But I think the black bezel makes the dial look bigger, A hard choice indeed , but there is not really a wrong one.

To me the 2254.50 as it stands out when you look at your wrist. The 2254.50 looks more luxurious due to the steel finish. The 2231.50 is a more stealthy example and comes off understated being the buffed finishes and darker material (be aware of the weight of titanium as some wearers prefer the heft of steel for a watch - to each their own). Both examples utilize the same great movement and such. As to your comment about a micro-adjust clasp, the 1610/930 bracelet did have an optional half link you might be able to request from an Omega boutique and could serve just enough to get you the right sizing.
