Good drive from Piastri, he's certainly the best newish driver in F1. Max had it controlled from the get go, as expected.

It was a real shame. That merc looked like it had loads of pace today and would have been a great scrap for the podium with the mclarens, if not even a bit more interesting up front.

Its worth mentioning the heat and conditions were so bad that…

for two laps Ocon was vomiting into his helmet and completed 40 laps covered in it

Stroll was passing out in high G corners for 30 laps, barely got out of his car and was treated for heat exposure by the med facility

Sergeant retired sick understandably so

Albon could barely get out of his car and had to be helped to the medical facility for heat exposure

Russel was concerned he would feint at 200mph

Multiple drivers passed out post race and were treated

Drivers- it's too hot and humid. I was passing out driving the track. This is really unsafe.
FIA, Liberty Media, F1- who cares if drivers are passing out from the heat and exhaustion... we keep getting dem checks!

Another thing from that race, Perez was really not on it again at all, and Horner is starting to sound more concerned about it in public interviews rather than playing it off and supporting him

Its pretty normal weather for this time of year in Qatar, end of the summer is always humid. Everyone is still using AC in their cars, houses and buildings so I can only imagine how hot it must have been in those cars

I lived four years in Jeddah, on the Red Sea, it was miserably hot and humid about nine months of the year, never stopped using a/c at any time of the year. I've lived off and on in the Houston area, similar weather but Arabia was worse and for longer time. With all the technology available is there no way some cooling could be provided to the drivers thru the suits and helmets? This seems it would be in the wheelhouse of F1 thinkers. Or is nobody working on it because they are too focused on other woke image issues of the day?

No one is thinking of it because it's added weight to the car. Unless it's mandated under safety reasons, it's never going to happen.

Alonso was asking for water to be thrown on his boiling hot seat to cool it down, but even that was not permitted. It appears that concerns are raised (like the tyre wear from the Qatar kerbs in the previous year’s race), but pushed aside. Then something daft has to happen, like a mandatory three stop race. When one of the drivers crashes because their warnings about their safety driving in those conditions were not heeded it will be interesting to hear what excuses the FIA roll out.

It certainly seems to be less common nowadays but I remember several drivers collapsing at the end of a race including Ayrton Senna, Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell more than once I think.. Stroll said he was passing out in the car, I think that's highly unlikely, as if you genuinely pass out you're off, in the wall, another car, gravel etc. even if you pass out momentarily, you're not compos mentis straight away.

Netflix’s Drive To Survive is genuinely missing out by not having Helmut Marko as a regular on the series.

Everything the man says is content, and while some of it is a bit loony, it’s rather entertaining having some old bloke that genuinely doesn’t give a damn being put in front of a microphone every week.

The US GP in Austin should be a good race. Red Bull tends to be slow to get up to speed during sprint weekends while Mercedes has historically been strong at COTA. I'm looking forward to seeing if the McLaren boys can maintain their momentum and fight for a win.

On a side note, I received an invitation last week from Red Bull Racing to attend the RB19 Austin livery launch event at Oracle headquarters. Unfortunately, the timing and logistics didn't work out.

What is Lewis going to blame this time for losing? Sun in his eyes? Team mate hitting him off again? Car sucks?

That sprint was pretty dull.. Verstappen it should have been penalized for intentionally running Leclerc off the circuit in turn one, here's an interesting rendering of a 2004 car compared to a 2023 car, even when you see them side by side the disparity in scale doesn't come across like this, I'm not sure it's entirely accurate though:
