It was pretty damp for the beginning of qualifying, but the spray was unbelievably bad..
I'm thinking that the ground effect has a profoundly negative effect on spray dissipation, before the reintroduction of ground effect, we used to get very concentrated rooster tales that were nowhere near as bad in terms of impinging visibility. Any thoughts??

Also looking at the onboard shots from Lewis, his car was porpoising like crazy for at least half the lap.. How is this all of a sudden back again??

What an absolute mess, why would anyone good even want to go there to replace the losses
Pay me enough money and I’ll go work there to do a crap job.

This is very wet, I don't think it's safe to start the shootout at the moment

Mmh, I get that we’ve seen two tragic accidents in Spa in the not too distant past. But forcing everybody to start on full wets behind the safety car while waiting until the inter seems to be the right tire really screams for chaos, I think. Very curious to see what’ll happen in the pits at the end of the formation lap.

edit: ok, looks a bit wetter than expected with all that spray. Excited about the sprint, would be super happy about a podium for Piastri!

Less chaos than expected, but I do feel a bit sorry for Checo…

I feel sorry for Lewis - 5 second penalty for racing?!

Also thought there were two too many laps being the safety car. A standing start would've been more fun. Didn't seem that wet.

It feels like they penalised him because of the hole in the RB and the resulting retirement but I don’t think Lewis was out of line at all, slippery conditions and wheel to wheel racing can cause minor bumps

Yeah agreed. The outcome shouldn't really come into it. Especially as they were at least both level.

Absolutely! It was a racing incident.. There was plenty of room for Perez to go on the outside, and Perez's mistake gave Lewis the opening to make the move and pull alongside pull level; yes Lewis had a bit of understeer but that was completely expected given the moisture levels on the track, especially off line.

The combination of rain and sun in the Shootout and the Sprint made for interesting racing, teams needed to noodle out the best strategies and the drivers had to do some serious driving to stay out of trouble and be competitive.

In general I think the stewards are veering into a too-cautious mentality and are intruding into situations where honest racing is being overly scrutinized and penalized. These are big boys, let them race.

In terms of waiting for the rain to stop they did the right thing, there was an hour window they could see on satellite, but I didn't see the track drying machines/blowers going out, nor did I see the safety car lapping at speed to create a dry line like they always used to do.. These measures should have been implemented as soon as it stopped raining, and we would have had a standing start.

Other than that, it was a good, albeit foreshortened, sprint race, and really great to see Piastri P2; a little bit of inexperience showed for the first time today, but he really deserved it.

This Belgian Elvis impersonator or whatever he is with the giant flag cape surrounded by cheerleaders is the oddest national anthem I’ve ever seen.

Who puts their flag on the ground?

Most countries, the rules surrounding the flag is a pretty uniquely American thing, we have guidelines here in Australia but rarely does anyway care if the flag is on the ground, on underpants, painted on a footy field or even painted on the ground.

Danny Ric off to hospital with his hand in a sling…

not looking good for him after that crash, Lawson and De Vries are both options to sub for him, would be cool to see Nyck get a send off at his home Grand Prix.

Like RB would ever do something like that.

True, they’ve just confirmed Danny has a broken wrist, Liam Lawson is filling in for him. Possibly for Monza too.
