Just been watching a bit of the practice sessions, looks like fascinating new upgrades on the Aston Martin, especially around the side pods: on top the side pods look almost identical to the latest Ferrari tight scalloping incarnation, with an addition of an incredibly sharp-looking pointed shark fin, but underneath the side pods towards the floor are where it starts to look really unique; they still don't have their own wind tunnel yet, so still borrowing Mercedes, but they've come up with some very interesting looking channels, scallops, floor folds and cutaways, sometimes these things look so counterintuitive but it's almost impossible to really judge how they're going to do without being privy to shit loads of wind tunnel data and computations, but it it's going to be fascinating to see how these translate this weekend and over the coming races.

Checo and Leclerc... terrible showing.
Perez is trying to keep up with Verstappen which he can't do, and he makes mistakes, Leclerc is just a victim of Ferrari strategy and mismanagement.

Agreed, Leclerc is getting more and more vocal and frustrated, and rightly so; this is still a continuum of the multifarious mistakes that could have cost him a championship.

And Perez seems to be trying way too hard, also he never seems to get the favorable strategy; I genuinely don't think the pressure of Ricardo looming in the background is helping him; I think he's a driver that needs to feel very much an inextricable part of the family in order to deliver his best.

Have to say I agree. I mean no-one really knows unless you're part of red bull but it seems to me that they're very much geared up as a one man show and always have been, whether that's seb or max. Webber's "not bad for a number 2 driver" comes to mind all those years ago. I'm not saying their future world champions but webber, Ricciardo, gasly, albon and perez are all excellent drivers that just appear to get mismanaged by red bull in the way they treat their obviously number 2 driver. It's not an easy task to keep 2 drivers happy but I think Merc did a pretty good job with Hamilton, Rosberg and bottas. And seem to be continuing that with Russell.

Completely! 'I mentioned the following in a previous post:
Hamilton and Rosberg were very closely matched all the way through which made the racing exciting despite the car advantage, also the car wasn't built around one or the other; whereas this Red Bull is most certainly built around Verstappen, so anyone going into that team would have a real challenge on their hands, that's why it would need to be somebody with a lot of experience in adapting to the car, and at the same time bringing the car and development towards them.

There are three possibly four drivers on the grid that could really keep Verstappen honest, but perhaps only one or two of them with the most experience would be capable of getting the upper hand on him'

Someone needs to tell Checo that he doesn’t need to set the fastest times in Q1 and Q2. He just needs to make sure he gets into Q3. ::facepalm1::

Regrettably I don't think he's got long left at Red Bull

Agreed but, I really rate Perez as a driver, on his day he's so rapid but I think his issue is psychological; Ricardo is also another very good driver but we know already that he doesn't have the speed of Verstappen, and I don't think he's got the experience needed to bring the development of a Verstappen biased car towards him; he couldn't do it in McLaren either and Lando significantly had the upper hand on him. Saying that, Lando is an incredibly talented driver. Ricardo is no slouch, but he's not going to be able to touch Verstappen, and we really need a driver that will not just keep him honest, but challenge him at every race.

Would love to see Danny Ric back.
You might get your wish after Nyck’s horrible quali today.

Apparently, Defries has got 4 more races to prove himself or he's out

He’ll be replaced during the summer break. Only way he doesn’t get replaced is if he wins a race or gets several podiums.

Yes, pity he seems like a nice guy and a pretty good driver, but I can't see him getting another drive unless Williams drops Sergeant who is not doing well, I think Defries could flourish in that kind of environment, and the Williams seemed to suit his driving style.

Spa is probably my favorite F1 circuit, but there are just too many deaths in the junior formulas
