Might have won if they didn’t declare on day1 😗
Agreed. Root was on one, he could have been cut loose to throw the bat into the 1st session - Day 2. Aus attack was tired. They will look at it as they were let off. But ifs, buts, pots, pans. Plenty of other factors that didn’t get us over the line.

I think England will win the series. Yes, we lost the first Test, but it was nip and tuck the whole way. Oddly, the momentum is with them and not the Aussies who have been playing pretty defensively. Keep that up, and we’ll flip them. Just my two penn’orth!

i think the momentum was with England until the Aussies got within about 30 runs and then was evenly balanced until the Aussies went one up in the series

Looks like the Aussie woman's team has come up Trump's... 8 wickets for the Australian spinner in the second innings 👍

If Aussie top order fires England are in trouble. Aussies won without Smith or Marnus Labuschagne making a impact. Either of those two can change a game...look at the world cup only a week ago 😗

England will be hesitant to go all bazball chasing a big score if Australia bats well first up with a toss win.

I learned a new word today 😎

Don't know where I could use it though.

So round 2 is underway. Pitch is a bit green and England have gone for a pace attack. Good toss to win for England i think and cloud cover should help the bowlers. I think this is a test match England cannot afford to lose if they have a hope for the series. Fingers crossed for another great match.

I'd love to be able to watch it on my tablet whilst I'm working but because the Sky Go app is a pile of steaming faeces all I get is "there is a technical problem, please try again" despite the fact I was watching it up until the rain delay this morning. Sounds like Oz have got off to a good start so maybe Sky is just sparing me from the pain...?

Yes. Aus have started well and England not really firing on all cylinders. Smith looks really in the mood today.

Well Australia's day for sure. England failed to take advantage of conditions and also missed catches. Aus batted well, especially Smith who looks in great nick. A chink of light with 2 late wickets will give Eng hope and if we could wrap up the remaining wickets with the new ball cheaply tomorrow then it is still all to play for.
Well done Australia for the first day.

Nice pullback by England with Root picking up a couple of wickets
Aussies had a fair bit of luck but suspect the ‘luck’ would have been England’s had they challenged the stumps more frequently

Intriguing days play.

England mop up Aus innings for 77/5 and then make a very positive start to their 1st innings. Good run rate and quality batting. First 2 sessions of the day go to Eng.
Inevitably Aus have come back in the 3rd session with a clever change of tactics to tempt Englands agressive batters. The loss of Pope, Duckett and Root in 7 overs is a blow for Eng and has gone some way to evening things up a bit for the day.

Nathan Lyons injury is also a big blow for Aus for this match and potentially the series.

Overall I think the game is finely balanced and the both sides will deperately be looking to win a crucial first session tomorrow. England with 6 remaining wickets looking to achieve parity/go beyond the target and Aus looking to start the 2nd innings with a lead.
Looking forward to another enthralling day.

I don’t think England actually want the Ashes. We’re much too cool for that.

England very much in front
Much improved in the Field
Lyons injury
On balance likely to even the series ledger after this game

Looks like Australia will be starting the second innings 50 runs up…below from live coverage…

Another dumb shot from an England batter and another wicket falls.

He stepped back away and tried to baseball the ball, it hits up on the splice and England have given away another wicket to a short ball.

"Shocking shot. England clearly like losing," Michael Vaughan said.

bizarre really
They had the absolute best of conditions in the first test and somehow managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory… and same again here, really should end up this innings 100 in front (and sure may still get there but really are making it much harder than they need to)

Seems like when it works it's praised as brave / radical Bazball, and when it doesn't it's playing inappropriate shots for test cricket.

91 down is going to be a tough task.

Aussie’s 2-0 up me presumes…..
