Hello. Im a proud owner of a moonwatch for the last few years and Im looking to expand my collection. Ive become enamored with the new Omega seamaster 300 reference
234.30.41.21.03.001

I have noticed that it is selling at or near MSRP even on the grey market. Will this likely go down in time or is this watch a one off and will likely never be cheaper than it is now?

Thanks

The watch market is crazy right now (driven partly by the insane prices being charged for Rolex and Patek models, IMO). But I also think a lot of buyers have a problem with impatience — they want the new watch immediately, and when they can’t do that as in years past, they want it even more and are willing to pay for that opportunity.

Gray market dealers are out to make money, and if enough people are willing to pay for the convenience of getting a watch immediately, they have no incentive to give a discount. I don’t see that this is going to change until people are not willing to overpay and dealers have too much stock on their hands — that probably won’t be this year.

Unless you can find a used one from the sales corner here for the price you want to pay, I’d just wait a year or so for the insanity to settle down. At some point, these watches will not be selling and the dealers will have to drop the prices.

Thank you so much. I shall wait. Is this watch a permanent edition or limited edition?

It's not limited edition, so they will make it as long as it sells. It's a gorgeous watch. I have the 233.20.41.21.01.002 in my collection and love it. If you are willing to let someone else wear it for a few months or a year you'll get a decent price.

Permanent.

At least for 5-6 years until they update it. There are no watches in the catalog that are truly "permanent" -- including the Speedmaster.

I got the black dial version for Christmas. A few initial impressions:

1) When I first opened the box I didn't like it at all. It looks quite a bit different in person from the Omega pictures.
2) The sandwich dial is touted as a way to get more lume but actually makes the dial less legible, in particular the 12/3/6/9. Specifically, the font used is not very wide, so if you are not looking at the dial straight on, then the depth actually overhangs the lume and blacks out the numbers. Does that make sense?
3) The domed crystal is pretty, but very reflective.
4) The watch's accuracy is ridiculous. For the first 8 days after setting on xmas morning I could not detect a single split second variation from the atomic clock. Every morning it was just dead on. Finally after 2 weeks I have drifted a total of 1 second.
5) I didn't even size the bracelet, I immediately swapped it onto a nato and I am in the process of making some leather straps. The black dial looks absolutely stunning with the several pieces of leather I have. This is more about the look that I'm after for this particular piece, nothing against the bracelet which appears very well made and has a nice taper and clasp.
6) Oddly, over the first week, the negatives of #1,#2,#3 turned into a positive. When I look at this watch, 80% of the time I don't see anything other than the hands. The dial is almost hidden. But wow does it make the hands pop. It almost doesn't look real. It's so very hard to capture in a cell phone picture, but in real life I have come to love the look. If you are someone who wants a highly legible dial in terms of the markers and numerals, this is not the watch for you, IMO
7) I have heard a professional reviewer indicate that the blue color is very dark in person. So dark they had to take it outside at one point to confirm they had the blue one and not the black one. I have not seen a blue in real life, but here too I suspect the stock photos are a bit misleading. I wanted the black either way since I view this model as a connection to the original model which only came in black.
8) The lume color varies depending on light. Sometimes it looks darker brown than the stock photos. But it's mainly only noticeably "not white" if you have a reference of something that is white (see below)

Here it is in its most legible form (direct light, viewed nearly straight on, etc) with the nato

And here is more what I'm talking about when the dial "goes black"

Daylight variant

Low light (by the fire inside)

Side by side with a 10 year old Speedy Hesalite... note how much more white and crisp the speedy's dial is

So bottom line, would I buy it again? Based on how I feel now 2 weeks in, definitely. Based on how I felt the morning I opened it up, no way. If there has ever been a watch that I needed to experience in the metal, over a bit of time, this has been it. So beware of that if you are buying it sight unseen. Also, don't pay retail 😀 I bought from an AD at a discount.

Thanks to all for the advice. This is the first watch (outside of a Daytona Panda I cant afford) that speaks to me to the same degree as a moonwatch. Im ultra picky and don't like dates on watches, only want blue or white dial for my second watch and want something between 39mm and moonwatch size. I also demand a watch that speaks to me when i see it. This one checks those boxes. Just have to find the right price.

Again, be sure to see it in person. I do not consider this watch "between the 39 and moonwatch" size. Don't let the "42mm" moonwatch spec fool you. You can see in my pic side by side that the SM300 looks bigger and is bigger than the moonwatch. I just measured and the bezel on the speedy is 39.0mm and the bezel on the SM300 is 40.6mm. Yes, the speedy case flares out to 42 down by the pushers, but it just doesn't wear nearly as big as the SM which has all that width up at the highest point on the bezel. If I didn't have calipers with me and somebody handed me the two watches and said "the Speedy is 42, what do you think the SM is?" I would reply with "44".

Great insight, would love to have your ADs info. I only have a boutique in my area and they don't discount. I did go check it out at the OB and I really liked both dial colors. Will probably go with the blue as I have the Non LE Railmaster with a black dial.
