Hi guys, Trevor and I are about to undertake a major server upgrade for Omegaforums.net.

The last upgrade was performed around December last year and was expected to last us probably around a year to a year and a half, however the growth rate of Omegaforums has significantly exceeded even our most generous estimates over the last 11 months, and while we've been able to use extraordinary measures to keep up with demand over the last two months, we're probably less than two weeks away from exhausting our hardware resources.

Our new hardware has double the RAM, four times the disk space (RAID'ed SSDs of course) and the latest generation of multi-socket Xeons. We're also using some newer tuning methods to get even more out of the new hardware once its online so hopefully we'll get more than a year out of this next setup :)

Currently we're testing the new server and will bring it live at some point soon, in the next 24 hours, during that downtime which we expect to be one to two hours, feel free to chat with us on twitter via @omegaforums. Thanks!

I think he meant that they RAID'ed the piggy bank and bought some new toys (that didn't have hands attached ) and fitted them into an existing case. We would call it a Franken but those IT folks call it an upgrade
Good work guys and sincere thanks for your continuing generosity.

This new one's totally fresh, we don't touch the hardware since it's a world away from us. There's multiple servers in several data-centres actually, encrypted backups are stored in Australia too. ;)

Surely it doesn't take 16 beagles to catch those Canadians fleeing from the ice and poutine!

    You guys have no idea...

I'm pretty sure we're paying for redundant hamsters. ;)
