Didnt want to post these 2 while bidding was still going on, so that someone doesnt possibly get screwed over. Wondering if these were the real deal, all original as claimed. Comparing to others that I saw on here, it looks like both were original dials/hands, no relume on them. I could of course be wrong so I am hoping that someone can either confirm that, or let me know what I missed. Ranchero 1: Ranchero 2: Serial 169... Thanks for the help
I was in contact with the sell with regards to the first rancher wasn't convinced about the markers not being re-lumed here was his reply. Hence I never bidded the lume on the markers just looks off centre to me .
Yeah, for that 1st one, I was thinking along the same lines. It looks like it may be original markers that shrunk, but I just dont have enough knowledge to be 100% sure. Also dial and hand lume look different color, so that is another reason i wasnt convinced. For the 2nd watch I just dont know what to think. That fuzzy lume on the dial always throws me off. I saw examples where same lume is original, and I saw examples where same lume was a relume. No idea how to differentiate between the 2 in that regard. Kinda annoying really. Thanks
Agree that the white one is hard to judge, pictures are poor and low res, but the white looks too flat and the step on the subdial is rounded, mine is sharper. But if it’s a redial it’s not the worst we’ve seen. The shifted lume on the black looks strange but it seems consistent in texture and color to mine, which was verified with a Geiger counter. The closeup is exagerating the shift. I think the main hands were relumed and the secnods hand was repainted, it looks thick and uneven.
Isn't that what might have happened because you didn't shout out before the auction ended: Someone got screwed over buying a faulty watch?
Shouldnt everyone do their own research before buying a watch? Ask 1st, buy 2nd. I wasnt 100% sold on it, and therefore didnt bid. How is it my responsibility to do research for others?
I just thought your choice of how to not screw someone over was a bit strange. Who did you think you would offend? Of course everybody has to make sure them selves they buy the real stuff.
Not offend, but perhaps draw more attention to it than it had before (if that is even possible with ebay listings) Maybe someone missed it, and then they decide they want to bid on it once it was posted on here. Meanwhile someone else that found it by themselves now has more competition, and can possibly be outbid. That is why I usually dont post live auction links, unless BINs, as I do not want to possibly pump up the price and have someone lose out on a watch because of it. In the case of 2 above, I was curious to see if both watches were all original as claimed, so I waited till bidding ended, and then asked. Can never have too much knowledge about these things
Back on topic of discussion. Would anyone else care to throw some info on the 2 watches. I was able to fish out few "better" pics of the 2nd watch. Hopefully those help
the second on is to close to call with out better photos .the first one I just wasn't convinced by the seller . I picked this one up over 18month age whilst on holiday
Thanks for those pictures tdn-dk and Steve. I am trying to get seller of the 2nd watch to send me few more pics. Quite a nice guy (through emails) He said he will try, but cant promise anything. If I do get something back, I will post up here and see if we can get a definitive answer on all original or relume. Thanks all once again.
So, seller came through and sent several high res photos. Looking at these, I am thinking it is original lume, but again would love if someone who actually knows what they are talking about to confirm Clicking on pics will open a super duper high res pic.
My vote is for relume. Note the overspill in places you don't see on factory dials The hour hand is interesting too. I like to see a 'grainy' texture as good marker of radium lume, but this one has a flatness that points to relume. Could be lighting, but it's lumpy too. The script is a tougher call, if it's been redone like I suspect, they've done a good job. Here's a comparison with my black dial version that might be useful (you'll have to try and look past my scratched crystal ) Check the font on 3 and kerning on the 'm's. Doesn't look quite right to me.
Thanks so very much! Just goes to show how much I still dont know, and have to learn. Appreciate the help
