Hi all, First question - I have a Seamaster Pro 300m Black Dial Quartz - what do people think of the Quartz, I love it, but also conscious that it may not be taken seriously as its not an Automatic - what do you guys think? Second question - looking to buy a moonwatch - I can't decide between Hesalite or Sapphire - any advice? Thanks
I'm a newbie also, so I'm interesting in seeing the answers to your questions. I own a Speedmaster Professional and it has the Hesalite crystal on it. I think it is a matter of personal taste, but there is a slight difference in the look between the two and I prefer the Hesalite look. .
Question one: do you like the watch? That's all that matters Question two: Please use the search function, it works wonders.
1, Speedmaster with hesalite crystal is the classic Speedmaster , but the can be prone to scratches . Easily remedied by using Polywatch & elbow grease . 2, Speedmaster with sapphire crystal is still a Speedmaster, but not prone to scratches so no need for Polywatch. And that’s about it on the hesalite/sapphire debate from me . Now it’s all down to your personal preference , I chose the Hesalite as it just felt the right one for me .
A little help for your second question ! https://www.fratellowatches.com/speedy-tuesday-incoming-question-about-original-moonwatch/ Best Wuza
You stated that you love your SMP - that’s the only validation you need. Anybody who considers a quartz movement to be inferior to mechanical is probably more of a snob than an enthusiast. There are some fine quartz movements gracing watch cases, and your Seamaster is among them As for hesalite v sapphire, the former is representative of the original Moonwatch, and is less likely to shatter should you find yourself in the unpredictable environment of a space capsule Have a good one
Buy whatever you want... it's your money and your watch. If someone else gives you crap, tell 'em to stick it.
Thanks for your replies and thoughts - i do love my SMP Here is a pic of it - also a pic of a watch my father used to wear and passed down to me before he lost his fight with cancer, I do not know much about it - can anyone identify it? It would be of great interest....I dont think it had ever been serviced and has been sitting in a draw for at least 20 if not 30 years or more - its a manual wind, and when i did try it - it is keeping time impressively very well. Please excuse the white marks on the SMP - it is immaculate, but those on the watch are from my sweater fabric.
So your watch should be a 136.070 You could find another example here at the OF https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-genève-136-070-1970.70619/ Wuza
