Hi,

I recently opened my white dial 1999 36mm Seamaster, cal. 1120, and found what I believe to be the ref. number on the inside of the case back. The number reads as 158.1522 to me, but I can't find any information on this res. number on the Internet.

Does anyone has any idea as to the wether this is the actual ref. number for this watch or not?

Ill be very grateful for any information.

EDIT: On closer inspection, the numbers could read 168.1622, which makes sense. The sloppy engraving from GRSA, though...

Cheers, Fred.

During that period, Omega had case numbers (the 168.1622 number) and reference numbers, which weren’t the same. So, all mid-size Seamasters of the era had the same case number, even if they had different dials, bezels, bracelet/strap combos that had different reference numbers. Based on a quick google search, yours looks like Ref. No. 2562.20.00 or a variant depending on if it came on a bracelet or strap.

Any difference or change to the case over time, meant it had a different case number, so they definitely did not all use the same case number.

If the bezel was polished instead of blue, it's a different case number. Of even if the case looks the same but some design detail changes that means a new case number.

Based on a quick google search, yours looks like Ref. No. 2562.20.00 or a variant depending on if it came on a bracelet or strap.

The OP has a mechanical watch, and the one you listed is quartz, so that's not it.

This appears to be a 2552200, and there were three different cases used.

The first iteration used a Cal. 1109, and had tritium on the lume pip - that is 168.1502.
The second iteration was when they changed to the Cal. 1120 movement - 168.1602.
The third is when they switched from tritium to luminova - 168.1622.

One thing to keep in mind is that what is stamped inside the case back is only a partial case number. So in this case the full case number for this watch is 055ST1681622. The "ST" in the part number indicates it has a polished steel bezel insert.

If you look at a 25518000 (the mid-sized Bond watch), it may also have 168.1622 inside the case back, but the full part number is 055SU1681622. The "SU" in the part number indicates it has a blue anodized aluminum bezel insert.

Cheers, Al

And now I can’t stop thinking about how awesome the OP’s watch would look with the blue aluminum bezel, which I’m guessing could be swapped in for the steel one-? Wonder if anyone has ever done that. Kind of mod precursor to the Tokyo ceramic one…
