Why are these so rare, particularly in grey? I'm also interested in knowing why the 1601 is a more popular model. Would appreciate any input from the more knowledgeable of you. Thank you. image.jpeg image.jpeg

Beats me man, there's are a few Rolex like this that are genuinely pretty that you don't really expect would work as well as they do and don't seem to be made in huge numbers or overly popular. I saw an electric blue dual Rolex Date with the engine turned bezel too recently and thought it was quite remarkable yet relatively unknown.

That's a lovely dial, never seen a gray dial in "tuxedo" before...enjoy it... As for rarity, I am guessing the silver dial is the one that most dealers get as the standard configuration. Anything else would need to be ordered and might take a while. I, for one, chose the rhodium dial when I bought my only new Rolex (a datejust) nearly 5 years ago. A custom order would have taken several weeks, and plus, I thought the rhodium dial looked swell. Now I long for these offbeat dial choices!

Oh those are pretty indeed. My dad's got one of these with the champagne tapestry dial in a two-tone case and it works pretty well.

The white tapestry dials are more common and equally attractive. (pic from Rakuten)

I almost pulled the trigger once on a grey tapestry dial like yours till my wife tactfully reminded it it looked like my grey teak AT8500... darn.:(

I don't know if you could call any DateJust "rare". There are sooooooo many dials and bezel combinations that you might not see one as often as some others, but "rare" is an oft overused word.

I meant the tapestry dials, not the DJs! I have not been particularly clear on a few of my posts and apologise!
My point was the relatively few tapestry dials, especially grey, which crop up....I think they are very special and wondered if the command a premium to other DJs?

The grey tapestry dial DJ's pop up for sale every 2-4 months or so, you can set a search on Watchrecon. HQ Milton also had one on sale recently IIRC.
