    Hello everybody!

    Prologue

So, this is it. I’ve reached the 200 posts necessary to post here and judging by the regularity that people try to achieve that quickly with heaps of „nice watch!“-posts, this must basically be like being allowed to print money. I would now like to earn my slice of the pie - I bought this watch for 55€, as presented in the 50£ max isolation challenge here:

Now I’m asking 56€ for it. And yes, I’m not ashamed of it.
(For my calculation, I’m ignoring the fact that I also added a 15€-strap to it that’s included in the deal, as long as you don’t tell my partner. When I bought it and she wondered if I really needed another watch, I asked her if she would want to turn down free money. The argument stuck. Accordingly, the price is not negotiable as I’ll have to be able to claim I made a profit on the watch. ;) )

    The Story

It’s a Russian Raketa (spelled “Paketa”) from the 1980s, manual wind 24h watch. Allegedly, the idea behind this 24h dial and the movable bezel was the use for submarine crews. Working in a shift system of 4h on (red), 4h off (white), 4h standby (blue), 4h off, 4h standby, 4h off, the watch helps to keep track of the time of the day and your shifts, especially without the sunlight. I do doubt that this is how it was actually done in the 80s (or that crews used this particular model) but I like the story.

    The Watch

    Paketa 24h
    Age: Ca 1980s
Movement: very solid 2623H manual wind
    Size: 40mm without crown
Movable bezel (hence the 2nd crown)

    Condition

I’d say it’s in a good overall condition. I don’t think it has been polished much (if at all), lugs seem sharp, the chrome on the case is intact. It winds smoothly and keeps the time reasonable well. Haven’t had it measured exactly but I doubt it loses more than a minute a day. The movement itself looks clean to me.

    Fair Warning

It’s not NOS. What you should know:

-There’s a small dot on the dial between 22-23
-Light scratches on the plexi that are visible in some angles. I tried to make them visible in the pictures
-Some chrome is missing on the crown
-while the guy I bought it from cleans and oils these simpler movements himself, I obviously don’t know that and can’t prove anything. The Raketa is therefore sold as having an “unknown service history”
-the movable bezel that displays the submarine shift times could use some more resistance in its movement. If you shake your hand vigorously, it might turn slightly to either direction. That might of course pose a problem when you’re planning on using it professionally. Say you set the bezel when you go to bed and then somehow move your hand vigorously for a while, that might slightly alter the bezels position. If due to that you miss your shift, get fired by your captain and thrown overboard, you cannot hold my responsible. I warned you. I’m also not sure if being thrown overboard a submarine is a thing but just in case I’d like to mention that I doubt the Raketa is waterproof.

Can I actually trust that guy?

I’d like to think so. I am aware this might not come across as the most serious of offers, so all jokes aside:
