Today this beauty arrived at my house. My first IWC.

To my great surprise also came along with the package was the original guantee - all serial numbers check out too so I’m very pleased with that.

Appears to have been sold in 1979 in Japan. So officially my most modern watch in my collection.

For a watch in this condition I gotta get a box to finish it off! Any ideas what kind of box this would have come with? :)

Also any idea of value once the crystal is fixed? :)

With original papers I would not be surprised if you could sell this between EUR 750 and 850. Maybe even a bit more. The bracelet is beautiful. The shape of the case and hands are a bit less popular. But overall It's very nice.

I dont know what kind of box the watch came in.

It’s funny how I would never have gone for a watch like this usually. But in person, it’s just such a beautiful delight to use and wear!

The design in my view is faultless. Sure aesthetically perhaps it is a little different but I like it. It is a time capsule from this 1970s period of design and sometimes when function is achieved so well and feels so right it makes the whole end product more enjoyable.

It is “emotional design” through the enjoyment and ease of use. The dial is simple and easily read, but the beauty of this watch comes to the case - it is super thin, the crown is so easy to wind as it protrudes slightly giving plenty of room for my thumb to turn it. Often I feel like I’m trying to wind a watch with the edge of my thumb, but with this I am in a much more comfortable position and my thumb has greater purchase on the crown.

Perhaps it is not the most desirable of designs but in person feeling it in your hands, I think the designer whoever that person may have been did a terrific job!

I happen to have an IWC Ref. 2403, which is the same watch without the integrated bracelet:

However, mine came with the same guarantee book and the box:

It’s a simple green box with IWC in gold leaf on top. The bracelet I have is the optional branded Milanese, which was available in Japan at that time.

The thin, plain crown is correct for this watch as it is not waterproof. Hence, no fish.

    Hope this helps,

Wow that’s perfect, I’m not sure the box will work with this watch because of the integrated bracelet but at least I have an idea of what to look for, perhaps they made elongated versions of these green boxes that would accommodate these bracelets when opened flat :)

Looking at crystals, I've just measured mine, and I'm looking for a 30.2mm domed crystal. Which type should I be getting off cousins? There are so many types? Low domed, slightly domed, high domed, I usually by original ones to the model case, e.g. Omega ones from Cousins so generic crystals is a new ball game for me - any advice? :)

To be honest, I haven’t a clue. A good watchmaker should be able to order exactly by the measurements of the old crystal.

I do not know of any parts listings by case number for IWC.
