Hi! I recently inherited my grandfather's 1978 DeVille - now my second Omega. Appears to still run well, although after 40 years (and almost certainly no service), I decided to have it serviced through Omega's Seattle service facility. I plan on keeping the watch for its sentimental value, so I was comfortable paying for the peace of mind that comes with Omega servicing.

I have two questions, I'm hoping you might be able to help out with:

    1) Any additional information on the watch? It's movement number #41645504 (so 1978); 14k gold; 28mm; Caliber # 625; and Case Reference # DD 6930Y. I'm having trouble deciphering the case reference number - DD is the proper code for combination gold, but "6930Y" doesn't follow the traditional numbering system. I did see, in Omega's vintage watch database, several similar pieces with similar numbers (i.e., 6923).

With respect to the caliber - my understanding is that 625 was fairly common, often used in ladies' watches, and not particularly collectible. That doesn't really bother me as I plan on keeping the watch, but any additional thoughts on the caliber would be appreciated!

    2) The gold bracelet (fused to the case) is very late 1970s... I am considering bringing it to a private jeweler to remove the bracelet and craft a bar on which to attach a leather strap. I know that will void that 2-year warranty on the servicing. Just thought I'd throw the idea out there, in case its sacrilege and would be a huge mistake.

    Thanks!

The attached photo has some interesting info about the mechanism and its designer.

DD 6930Y indicates a US market watch, these US references do not follow ROW numbering system.

Although originally intended as ladies caliber the caiber 620/625 were used in many men's dress watches as well due to their slim size.
