Interesting article shared in the SWFG - Space Watches Facebook Group
As always a few "Preliminary remarks"

"" Seiko's "nod" to the classic Pogue "" article.
First of all NASA astronauts didn't only wear the NASA-issued Omega Speedmaster, counting from the Omega Speedmaster qualification in June 1965, already on Gemini V Charles "Pete" Conrad wore his personal Glycine Airman automatic pilot watch, which he wore again directly exposed to outer space during Gemini XI in 1966. On the Gemini VIII mission Neil Armstrong wore a Longines-Wittnaeur belonging to his childhood aviator hero James "Jimmie" Mattern. Without going in further detail, during Apollo missions 13 to 17 at least 4 Rolex GMT-master 1675 pilot watches were worn to the Moon.
During the final Skylab-4 mission, from 16 November 1973 to 8 February 1974, both SL-4 Commander Gerald Carr (Movado Datachron HS360 PHC automatic chronograph) and Pilot William Pogue (Seiko 6139-6005 automatic chronograph) wore the "first" automatic chronograph during 84 days in space.

Wrist watch journalism must be something more recent than aerospace journalism, as already in the 1980s and 1990s spaceflight enthusiast wrote articles about wrist watches in space and astronauts even answered snailmail questions via the "Readers Write" column in magazines like "Spaceflight".

I wonder if we'll get a proper reissue soon. They've got fun reissues of their classic dive, dress, and GMT watches. Hopefully the chronographs will get the same treatment.

Yeah, missed opportunity- seiko needs to get the heritage design team from Citizen/Bulova over for lunch: “ See this….do that”.

And a Rolex on Apollo 13 (most likely Lovell)- that explains everything 🙄

Indeed, for the older generation it's a bit strange what all watch brands with aerospace links bring out these days... but I like the look of this 2024 "Pogue" ...

Adding this online photo for all futute reference:
.
Just ordered one, delivery in August.

Coincidentally, I'm servicing mine ATM.
I have a spare minute counter hand.
Think I should strip the paint and re-shape it so it's a real Pogue tribute?
😁

Is "Pogue" the new "calatrava"? Anything that remotely resembles the original is given the name. Not a fan, myself.

the cloned the 62 MAS and the 6117-8000’s and reissued those perfectly.

the problem for redoing the early automatic chronos is there is no movement to mimick them.

Agreed- they nailed the divers. As for no movement…they are Seiko.
