A friend of mine has a 1973 speedmaster 861 and was wondering if he could fit a 1162 speedmaster bracelet to it and if so what number endlinks would suit. The endlinks that are on the bracelet are 172. And help much appreciated. Thanks.

Has he worn it since 1973? That thing looks remarkably nice

Not sure. Any thoughts on the bracelet conundrum
That bracelet appears to fit the Flightmaster and some others with the same shape of case. It will probably go on but it's inappropriate. He can get a modern 1171/633 directly from Omega or get one of the aftermarket flat-links from either Uncle Seiko or Forstner.

Thanks for that. He prefers older bracelets but I will pass on that information to him.

What he said. The 1162 is not a Speedmaster bracelet.

He can certainly find an appropriate vintage bracelet and endlinks on eBay or Chrono24. They're not inexpensive, but they are available. He can probably sell the 1162 on the same platforms to recoup some of the cost of buying the correct bracelet.

Agreed, but hopefully with appropriate end pieces it might fit.
There is literally no way of knowing what those might be or even if the 1162's end links are permanently attached. It's best to just get the right bracelet, and I was also thinking he could sell his, or perhaps trade it....

The 1162 has fixed end links so these would have to be cut off and also the last link in order to have a male center link to fit the Omega 633 end links. The 1162 is 24mm wide and each link reduces by 2mm, so you have to cut off 2 links from each end to get it to 20mm. Would that be worth the effort and destruction of an 1162?

I see what you mean. I actually own two 1162 bracelets, one with end pieces and one without. When we met up this morning my friend just asked if I would post this conundrum here to see if someone might know of a way to amalgamate 633 end links with the 1162 bracelet. Thanks.

The speedmaster is certainly not a safe queen and the owner has no intention of ever selling. He just likes the idea of a cheaper original omega bracelet amended to fit.

In that case, his best bet is to sell the 1162 and buy an 1171/633. I should think it would be in the neighborhood of $500 directly from Omega, more from a reseller.

Just checked on Ebay and 600 euros will buy one. I will pass on this information. Thank you.
