I recently bought a 1972 speedy pro moonwatch. Never been serviced is what I was told and by the look of the gasket I’d say that at least it’s been a while. Looks to be in good shape though, runs perfectly. Been quoted 1250 for a full service plus replacing the mainspring, crown and Crystal.
New to this vintage watch stuff and was wondering if that’s in the ballpark for price

thanks!

Well seem like you have two threads going for this.

$1250 is way too high. The Crystal will probably polish up nicely with some Polywatch. Most people prefer to keep the crown original. You’ll find someone more reasonable and recommended here.

Hard to believe it’s running perfectly and keeping accurate time with no service in the past 48 years but either way you should find a reliable watchmaker and keep the crown original. I think $750 is a better ballpark for service costs

Yeah, $750 would be typical for Omega authorized independent watchmakers in the U.S. If you post what city you're in or near, someone can probably suggest a watchmaker.

He mentioned Dallas/Fort Worth in his other thread.

Thanks all.
Never took any photos of it and it’s now at the shop...
Yea they mentioned about 850 for the service then added the other cost for replacing those 3 components. I’ll probably see if they really need to replace the crown or it’s just preventative.
The Crystal currently on it isn’t an omega so want that replaced with an omega one. Have no idea if the mainspring should be replaced or not. Have to trust them I guess. I’m not opposed to paying ~1000$ especially as they’ve already had it for a month and I need it finished ASAP.
Sounds like the service cost isn’t that far off at 850.

thanks again.

Replacing the mainspring is the standard for a professional level of service. If it hasn't been serviced in 48 years, there will most definitely be other parts in the movement that require replacing, so if the price includes whatever is needed in that regard, it's not completely out of line.
