My mom worked at Sears in Canada for 35 years. For her 25th anniversary, then Simpson Sears gave her an Omega with six diamonds. My mom is gone now. I'd like to pass this watch of hers to my wife. Getting it cleaned up and a new band. What is this watch worth? Should I toss the moldy band? By cleaning it does that devalue the watch? The inscription is dated 1973. Your assistance is much appreciated.
The value in small ladies Omegas like that "Saphette" model is in the gold case and stones only. And of course, the sentimental value. No, you will not devalue by cleaning. If anything, you will enhance value by making it wearable. The case and dial look to be in excellent condition. Get the movement overhauled and you should be good to good for a long time. If there is anything on the band that is signed "Omega" then I would recommend keeping the old parts, but put a new band on it. If the band or clasp is not original, toss it. Hope this helps, gatorcpa
